In Search of the Higgs

In 2012, experiments to discover the Higgs Boson particle were conducted in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland.  A successful detection would prove the means by which elementary particles acquire mass.  Proof has been a target of physicists since the theory was first postulated in the mid-1960s and, if confirmed, would lead to a significant expansion of knowledge into the nature of existence.

Mark Willcox has a strong interest in conceptual physics and Chaos Theory.  In celebration of the discovery of the Higgs, this series was created in a long, dark, pedestrian tunnel.  A comparison is made in his imagination between the tunnel and the Large Hadron Collider and between people and particles.  With colour stripped back and an emphasis more on environment than on human presence, the tunnel becomes fascinating; it conveys a mystique that seems to arise from its atmospheric and spatial qualities, stirring the imagination and evoking ideas of a gateway to parallel  theoretical worlds.
